Clarinet and Flute
A while ago I spent an afternoon photographing my musical instruments. This was one of my…
I Should Really Be Practicing Right Now But I’m Not: An Autobiography
It’s only fair if I post cheerleaders in band, I should post football players as well. (Although, I’d really like to see this guy’s practice schedule…)
REBLOGGING ON THE RIGHT BLOG.
Oh god. Why can’t I do this?! I WOULD.
This reminds me of this one time there was a football player who played our HS that marched flute.
I am extremely impressed by the badass levels in these pictures.
Is he center marimba??? I am amazed. I wanna give him a hug.THE FLUTE PLAYER THOUGH (sorry, I’m a bit biased to my own instrument and this just makes me smile)
How can you tell I’ve practiced flute a lot lately?
Just look at my chin. Damn pimples.

Selma Wooden Flute
The own brand of the music-store I’m borrowing these piccolos from!
It’s not hard to miss that it’s a wooden piccolo on its name. I think it was pretty and the headjoint-design with lip-plate & whave worked all right, though the keys felt a little to “deep” for my fingers and the C# key was placed too high - therefore it didn’t feel the best to hold. It also had a very slow key-spring that wouldn’t spring back (open), so it made some funny sounds… therefore I decided to put it away. I’m considering asking for another one just because I didn’t feel like I could try it fully for that reason.
Yamaha YPC-32
Plastic body and silvered headjoint, pretty easy to get a sound out of and comfortable to play on. Though the tone is a little sharp, but I guess that is what you can expect from plastic. This is my second favorite anyways!
Pearl PFP-105 E
I have tried this model before! [a b c d] and it was my first go on piccolo ever. It’s made of Grenaditte, which is described to be plastic-material with a wooden timbre. Compared to the others I actually concluded that it felt like porcelain… It’s really pretty though, with french-pointed keys and a whave-line headjoint. Sadly I couldn’t get a clear sound from it and it was hard to adjust to this time, plus the keys were noisy when I played so I decided to put it away.
Yamaha YPC-62
This is the only second-hand piccolo I got sent and It’s my current favorite! It’s made of wood and the headjoint is a “standard” one. It is really pretty and comfortable to play on and makes a warm sound that I like.
I think this is the one ;)
Powell PS-750 T
One of their latest models with square-shaped keys. I am not a fan of this design and it didn’t feel good under my fingers, though the red wood (or maybe it was made of grenaditte I’m not shure actually) was really extraordinary and looked cool. I don’t really have an opinion on the sound because I almost instantly put it away because of the previously mentioned reason.
If you who are reading this are trying new flutes or piccolos yourself don’t listen too much to what I say; everyone likes different models and have various preferences to what fits for them! These are just my notes as I have tried a few models :)
